Yao Guanyu

Before short dramas, he appeared in 卿卿日常 and 公子不可求. A friend introduced him to mini-program dramas; he told his interviewer that he approaches long and short formats as the same acting craft.

For 撕夜, Yao discussed the script with director Zhao, with whom he was working for the third time. He used crying scenes to express his character’s unreturned love and described responding to his scene partner’s emotional cues rather than preplanning gestures.

He has also worked as a short-drama producer and directed his own music videos. He says those jobs made him pay closer attention to practical details on set, including props and actors’ comfort; story is his priority when choosing a script.

In 2025 he received the CMG First China Micro-Drama Gala's Outstanding Micro-Drama Performance Actor award, iQIYI's Annual Micro-Drama Shining Actor honor and the Hengdian Micro-Drama Night's Annual Appeal Star Actor award. He treats the “boss” label with gratitude, saying it means viewers believed the performance, while hoping to take on suspense, crime and villain roles; he would prepare for a police part by spending time in the character's real-life settings.

Also featuring him as Li Yan in 宫墙雪, Huo Zichen in 她比枪火炽热, Li Jinyan in 饲养夜色, Lu Huaifeng in 不堪折, Qin Yuenan in 恋夏的故事, Fu Yaoyang in 他比子弹温柔, Xu Xingzhi in 白夜危情, Sang Yinheng in 好一个南秘书, Ji Ye in 嗅骨, Mu Ye in 绝代风华 and Gu Yunjie in 替兄藏娇娥.
