18 short dramas worth trying this week
The China and AI desks were reselected from 46 past-week titles clearing a common heat floor across live action, AI video and comic drama. Catalog admission stays separate from these six editorial picks; the Global desk carries September 5's verified shelf forward.
China live action
1 Top pick No Waiting: The Divorce Has Expired
Cast Zhang Chi / Zhi Chun He
On divorce day, a crash erases ten years and returns the husband to his eighteen-year-old mind.
- You might enjoy
- Marriage repair, amnesia, regret and a second look at who two people used to be.
- Story notes
- The medical premise is pure melodrama; emotional re-examination matters more than realism.
Still #8 on the September 12 official hot chart, it makes amnesia a confrontation with a marriage's missing decade.
2 His Love Invades Deeply
Cast Wang Xiaoyi / Chen Si
Reborn before her false-savior lie is exposed, Rong Jiqiao takes the settlement and tries to disappear.
- You might enjoy
- Rebirth romance, moral debt, self-rescue and a male lead who refuses the easy exit.
- Story notes
- The romance depends on accepting a very compromised starting relationship.
The official chart's #2 title gives the familiar rebirth escape plot a sharper question about consent and obligation.
3 No Falling in Love After Marriage
A man from a family of legendary romantics writes rules forbidding himself from falling in love after marriage.
- You might enjoy
- Contract marriage, mind-reading comedy and a restrained husband losing to his wife's unfiltered thoughts.
- Story notes
- The mind-reading device favors broad sweetness and quick jokes over relationship realism.
Released on September 11 and already #3, it is the archive window's clearest late-arriving breakout.
4 Dongguan Storm: From Wild Grass to Business Queen
Cast Song Yu Xin / Sun Zhu
After refusing humiliation at school, Jiang He heads south and turns survival work into a path toward commercial power.
- You might enjoy
- Female enterprise, class mobility and period stories where work changes a life.
- Story notes
- Its rise is built from compressed milestones rather than slow business detail.
First visible September 8 and now #4 with 6452 ten-thousand heat units, it is the expanded pool's strongest non-romance-led Chinese rise story.
5 Fishing Toward Dusk
Cast Sa Gangyun / Mao Zhu
A retiree's family breaks the one modest thing he bought for himself, and he finally files for divorce.
- You might enjoy
- Late-life independence, family boundaries and grounded dignity rather than romantic rescue.
- Story notes
- The family cruelty is heightened to make the break decisive and cathartic.
At #15 with 5569 ten-thousand heat units, it adds an older protagonist and a materially different conflict to the week's shortlist.
6 The Sickly Prince Forced to Wed a Woman General
Cast Sun Yue / Zhao Huinan
A modern soldier wakes as a sickly prince, is forced to wed a woman general, and recovers by standing in sunlight.
- You might enjoy
- Wild historical fantasy, system comedy, warrior couples and succession plots.
- Story notes
- The quantum-soldier title promises deliberate excess; realism is nowhere near the priority.
Its 5012 ten-thousand heat units clear the same catalog threshold as every other pick, while its genre mix prevents the shortlist becoming six variations on urban romance.
AI drama and comic drama
1 Top pick Nuonuo Descends the Mountain and Her Senior Brothers Panic, Season 2
A six-year-old descends with a giant sword to rescue five senior brothers who are already hidden masters.
- You might enjoy
- Child heroines, cultivation families, giant weapons and affectionate power reveals.
- Story notes
- Season two is powered more by family chemistry and spectacle than by uncertainty over who will win.
With 9071 ten-thousand heat units on the September 12 official comic chart, it remains the week's serial-event leader.
2 Chronicle of the Myriad Demons Atlas, Season 12
Every demon Jiang Yuechu paints into her atlas becomes a power she can turn against a rotten Chang'an.
- You might enjoy
- Demon hunting, Tang fantasy, collectible powers and a world built for long serialization.
- Story notes
- Twelve seasons of accumulated lore make this much friendlier to returning viewers.
At #2 with 8676 ten-thousand heat units, it remains the strongest world-building counterweight to cute-family AI hits.
3 A Courtyard Full of Ancient Demons, Season 3
A nine-tailed fox, her four-year-old son and a rescue commander turn a contract marriage into a refuge for spirits.
- You might enjoy
- Mythic relatives, period survival, found family and domestic life with an increasingly supernatural household.
- Story notes
- Season three assumes the audience accepts rapid shifts between trafficking danger, market hustle and warm family comedy.
Released September 11 and already #3 with 8611 ten-thousand heat units, it is the comic chart's decisive late-window arrival.
Silent Jingxu: The Foolish Girl's Checkmate
The Shen family's supposedly foolish daughter finally speaks when a contract threatens to bury the entire group in debt.
- You might enjoy
- Feigning weakness, legal reversals, family rescue and heroines who win by reading the fine print.
- Story notes
- The reborn-lawyer advantage makes the contract duel a competence fantasy, not an even contest.
At #4 on the official AI-drama chart with 5998 ten-thousand heat units, it earns the second AI-video slot after the expanded two-pool review.
Armed into Song, Season 4
A five-person team uses modern technology to stabilize Qinghe while one member heads toward the imperial examinations.
- You might enjoy
- Song-dynasty transmigration, practical technology, local governance and a team growing beyond its frontier base.
- Story notes
- This is season four and works best for viewers already invested in the team's settlement-building arc.
Released September 10 and #5 on the official AI-drama chart, it proves the weekly shortlist is drawing from both AI pools.
6 After Sleeping Three Hundred Years, My Five Little Beasts Are Demon Ancestors
Ali wakes after three centuries to find that the five little beasts she raised are now demon ancestors.
- You might enjoy
- Time-jump reunions, mythic found family, ancient seals and a deliberately humble quest kit.
- Story notes
- Its cute reunion and extinction threat sit side by side with intentionally extreme tonal contrast.
Now #6 on the official comic chart, it is the week's most charming high-concept AI newcomer.
Global releases
1 Top pick Altarboy
Cast Cayman Cardiff / Declan Clifford
An eighteen-year-old sent to church for 'correction' becomes the altar assistant of a hostile young priest.
- You might enjoy
- Forbidden queer romance, enemies-to-lovers tension and coming-of-age conflict.
- Story notes
- Religious rejection and coercive correction are central sources of pain.
The current non-AI global leader has a premise sharp enough to carry both romance and institutional conflict.
2 Cooking My Way Back to Love
Cast Adam Daniel / Christine Gonzalez
A homeless former king of cooking gets one ordinary kitchen job and a route back to life.
- You might enjoy
- Hidden masters, restaurant rivalry and grief repaired through useful work.
- Story notes
- A fresh personal loss pushes the recovery story toward revenge.
The best kind of comeback fantasy: skill returns only after the person finds a reason to use it.
3 Mistaken as His Mate: The Luna’s Regret
Cast Luke Charles Stafford / Melody Parra
A Luna mistakes her Alpha's pregnant sister for a mistress and turns jealousy into irreversible harm.
- You might enjoy
- Werewolf melodrama, catastrophic misunderstanding and revenge after regret.
- Story notes
- Pregnancy loss and bullying make this one emotionally harsh.
It remains high because the misunderstanding has consequences too serious for an easy apology.
4 You've Been Replaced, First Love
Cast Katherine Gibson / Armand Procacci
He treats his first love as practice and turns her private life into a public trophy.
- You might enjoy
- Campus betrayal, self-respect and a new romantic possibility after humiliation.
- Story notes
- Public humiliation is the engine, so the second-hand embarrassment is intense.
The satisfying choice is not the replacement romance but Tessa finally refusing to remain a rehearsal.
5 Take Me Back to the Night We Met
Cast Mark H. McClafferty / Katherine Gibson
A former Olympic skating hope meets the childhood love she abandoned while trapped in a loveless engagement.
- You might enjoy
- Second chances, sports ambition and adults reclaiming abandoned choices.
- Story notes
- The central tension depends on an existing engagement and unresolved nostalgia.
It works when the comeback in love and the comeback on the ice are treated as the same act of agency.
6 Keeping the Cowboy's Baby
Cast Rebecca Stoughton / Carter Sirianni
A woman seeking a new start becomes pregnant by her ex's protective ranch-owning brother.
- You might enjoy
- Cowboy protection, pregnancy romance and small-town emotional safety.
- Story notes
- The possessive protector fantasy is played very straight.
A reliable comfort pick because the cowboy fantasy is attached to a heroine explicitly trying to begin again.
