No More Backing Down
Before graduation, Ximena and boyfriend Preston planned a quiet seaside town. A week before, his best friend Blair pushed an Arizona–Utah road trip. Ximena canceled the hotels and replanned. On departure day Blair took the passenger seat; carsick Ximena rode in back. At a rest stop, while getting medicine, the car left without her. Preston refused to turn back. Ximena stopped chasing, flew to Porto Cielo, and built a slow solo life by the sea. Preston later begged; Blair called her a burden, then admitted she saw Ximena exit and stayed silent. Half a year on, Ximena stood on her own.
