Reversal

On the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month, auto mechanic Zhao Degui uses his last two yuan to buy a lottery ticket and wins 4.13 million after tax. Suddenly rich, he buys an electric bike and brings Maotai to visit relatives, triggering cousin's probing, uncle's loan request, and village party secretary's urging for road repair fees. Someone climbs over the wall to spy; he installs an alarm and an iron door bolt, hiding the secret in a leather suitcase under the bed. The new countryside construction plans to demolish his rammed-earth house; he hires a lawyer to review the agreement and secures priority in choosing a new apartment. On the 14th day of the first lunar month, after signing, he holds the frozen dumplings his sister brought and sits on the threshold that has been cracked for forty years—spring has begun, and the spring breeze seeps through the cracks into this old house soon to disappear.
